Good weather, nice churches, and long drives

Published by Kim under Weddings

From Friday - we drove to Marystown to cover the wedding of Marsha and Edmund. There was one other subject though that was an important part of the family - we got some great shots of Sam as well.

Edmund and Sam.

There was a great little church in Burin and the community in general is beautiful. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to do any scenic shots as we had a hectic schedule. I’ll be going back.

On Saturday we covered a wedding in St. John’s at St. James United. It was a little weird being in this church shooting, as I’d spend many hours there in a past life as a member of their concert band - I played trumpet and french horn. I’m glad to say that the light is just as good as the acoustics.

This shot was an odd one to get, but luckily the couple was very adventurous. Every time we had an idea or suggestion, the bride was all over it.

Terry and Sharon.

We’re shooting three this weekend…. more later.

No room in the park for the animals

Published by Kim under Weddings

This weekend went well. The weather was good on Friday for a change - we ended up with some dramatic shots on Signal Hill. We were not so lucky on Saturday, but made the best of the intermittent fogginess thanks to a very adventurous and gracious couple. Both weddings were held in the same spot - Corpus Christi Church on Waterford Bridge Road - beautiful church, nice light.

Bowring Park was pretty much overrun with bridal parties on both days. I’m somewhat glad (although more than a little surprised) that the people running the park have not yet required that couples reserve a spot in advance, ala Government House. It gets pretty hectic this time of year. Four other parties there on Saturday, and we were only there for about an hour.

These are a few more shots from last Saturday’s wedding (just over a week ago). Karen and Russ were married at Gower Street United.

All 450+ pictures from Jennifer and my coverage of this wedding are available on the couple’s web site.

As usual, all these wedding are also available from the clients page of the site.

One More Sleep

Published by Kim under Weddings

Here are a couple more pics from Friday and Saturday’s Weddings. I thought that this image looked rather foreboding, I particularly like the church peeking through the middle, it’s a semi silhouette.

The next two images were completely candid. I got Karen hugging the guests as they left the church by standing behind the gap in the door snuggled between the door and the hinges. She had no idea I was there and it allowed me to get unfiltered reactions.

The last picture is of the flower girl in Karen’s bridal party, who was adorable. She smiled the whole day but insisted that she needed lip gloss applied before getting any pictures taken.

Anyway there are two more Weddings this week. I should have some new session web sites on line within the next couple of days. They are worth checking out - I really love these pictures.

It’s all in the lighting

Published by Kim under Weddings

Saturday’s wedding was in Pouch Cove. Jeanette and Neil were married in All Saints Anglican Church - a nice little church in a nice little community. Again, as if it was planned, it was raining early in the day, but the weather broke at just the right time and the sun started to fill the church with beautiful light about half way through the service. This is the general reaction as Jeanette made her entrance…

The couple’s home is right on the water and we got some nice stuff there as well. I’ll post another one later.

Friday’s wedding also went well. In particular, Karen, the bride, was a joy to work with - excited, adventurous and beautiful - what more could you ask for? I particularly like the lighting in this photo - for a minute or two there was a beam of sunlight streaming in from a high window that I was able to capture.

There’ll be a photo site online for that one in a few days. We’re editing three this week, so we’re playing catchup again - more tomorrow.

Just smile and nod politely till you figure it out

Published by Kim under Newfoundland

We took a break from the weddings today for a few hours and went downtown to check out the Busker Festival. It was a busy spot as people roamed from event to event, from The Murray Premises to the War Memorial, along with the Scotia and Fortis Buildings in between. Pictures here are from the Scotia Centre with The Blastoffs performing (James Burke, Jocelyn Wilson and David Mercer of NL).

So I’m sitting there with my significant other, and the woman who has been sitting on the other side of me turns and says “Hi Kim, are you still doing photography at “old job”. I had no idea who she was at first, but it turns out that I photographed her little one.

This has been happening to me a lot lately - it’s a little embarrassing at first, because I don’t always remember the person right away. We worked out the stats the other day from the old job - a conservative estimate is that I photographed some 13,000 people (not exactly true, as many were repeat customers, it was a high volume family portrait studio chain whose name I will not utter here). Before I take out the camera from now on I’m gonna have to say “Hands up everyone that remembers me!”

Photo Web Site

Published by Kim under Weddings

A site from last Saturday’s shoot has just been put online. It poured during the service, but the weather later broke just long enough for us to get some nice shots outside.

Ken and Sue’s complete session is available here.
