When shooting for a magazine, you typically take several shots and often only a handful get used, sometimes even just one.
Here are some outtakes from Janelle’s shoot - a few posts back was the one used for the full page inside cover.

I did a shoot yesterday with Marceno, a local alt rock band.
I was a musician in a past life, and I gotta say, I like their CD - a slightly heavy sound, good vocals by the lead singer Melanie Benson. Their new disc has just recently been released.

Check them out in the next issue of The Current, or find out more about them online at Google.

Grads. I love them. In some ways, it’s like shooting my favorite part of a wedding - over and over. And from what I’ve seen, it’s as big a production as a wedding is too. Dresses, shoes, hair, limos… oh yea… almost forgot… dates.
The girls are so beautiful and they just blow me away with their ease in front of the camera. I guess all those modeling reality shows are making my job much easier.

I’m recalling my own graduation right now. There I was, standing in the living room, practically glowing with my fake tan. Mom was taking snaps of me and my date - my corsage half way to dead. Evidently, someone forgot to put in in the fridge… you know who you are.
There seems to be an industry built up around these things in the last few years. I’m not entirely sure where it’s come from - perhaps it’s just a viscous cycle of one family trying to out-do the other, with parents insisting that their child have the very best. That’s understandable I guess. I wonder how important the whole production really is though.

Anyway, soon into shooting a grad I tend to forget that it’s a specific shoot for a special occasion. I’m guessing that, down the road, someone will likely look at a nice old grad photo and remember the time with a fond memory. Or maybe not - it may just get stuffed away in a box soon after. But a great shot of a beautiful young woman having fun - that’s something entirely different.

I found myself in picturesque Cupids for a few minutes today. As we drove along the shore I was snapping some shots of local fishermen checking their traps.

I also noticed quite a few horses in the area. Getting the next shot meant sneaking through some private property. Usually, when I see something like this I just go for it - hoping I won’t get accosted or arrested. As I crept up on Queenie, or so I thought, I turned in surprise to find the homeowner watching me. “Hi my darling!”

Anyway, as you can see, I had to get down in the grass to get this angle - not always a good idea with a horse around. Not that I care - I was exposed to worse at the old place.

A few more shots from our road trip to central. As you can see, there was quite a bit of pack ice.

Just as was the case at Cape Spear and Blackhead for the last few days, there seemed to be a good few tourists poking around up there about a week ago.
So all this frozen stuff has given me an idea. It’s sorta like the movie Rare Birds, but instead of a duck, we use an chunk of ice.
Forget about all that money on tourism ads (incidentally, has anyone noticed how the saturation is cranked up to an almost blinding level on those?). Let’s just go lasso an ice burg or two each spring and park it outside the narrows. Actually, we could get one for any area that needs a tourism boost. Ice all around!

And with the way the polar ice caps are melting, we don’t even have to chop them off. What we have here is perfect timing - just hook on and drag bits of the ice sheet a little closer as it falls apart and passes on by. We should get them while the gettin’ is good - there won’t be any left in a few dozen years! <sigh>
Always have a “Plan B” Dave.
