Grad Season
Grads. I love them. In some ways, it’s like shooting my favorite part of a wedding – over and over. And from what I’ve seen, it’s as big a production as a wedding is too. Dresses, shoes, hair, limos… oh yea… almost forgot… dates.
The girls are so beautiful and they just blow me away with their ease in front of the camera. I guess all those modeling reality shows are making my job much easier.

I’m recalling my own graduation right now. There I was, standing in the living room, practically glowing with my fake tan. Mom was taking snaps of me and my date – my corsage half way to dead. Evidently, someone forgot to put in in the fridge… you know who you are.
There seems to be an industry built up around these things in the last few years. I’m not entirely sure where it’s come from – perhaps it’s just a viscous cycle of one family trying to out-do the other, with parents insisting that their child have the very best. That’s understandable I guess. I wonder how important the whole production really is though.

Anyway, soon into shooting a grad I tend to forget that it’s a specific shoot for a special occasion. I’m guessing that, down the road, someone will likely look at a nice old grad photo and remember the time with a fond memory. Or maybe not – it may just get stuffed away in a box soon after. But a great shot of a beautiful young woman having fun – that’s something entirely different.
