And that was with just one hand!

Published by Kim under Weddings

A few more shots – this time from a wedding that we covered last weekend.

Although we did have some creative limitations while shooting this one, I think we still managed to get some nice stuff.

Another upside down wedding

Published by Kim under Weddings

Here’s a few shots from another one from a few weeks back.  Crista and Jonathon were married at the Bungalow in Bowring Park.

It was very unconventional. We covered her preparations first, and then all the other stuff, ending with the wedding that evening.  Unlike Amanda and Jeff, they had perfect weather for the outdoor ceremony.

The full session has just gone online – check the Client page over on the wedding site.

When it rains…

Published by Kim under Weddings

Rain on the wedding day supposedly means good luck, so Amanda and Jeff should have a long wonderful life together. It poured on Saturday – not that they cared though.

We arrived to their house only to be caught up in a real celebration – music, friends and laughter. The bride and groom got ready at the same location, which btw is a great idea for candid photos.

We ventured outside despite the down pour. She had mud on her dress long before the ceremony, but made the best of it. The day largely involved ducking under stuff – door ways, large leafy trees, umbrellas, and into Macdonalds.

Yes, Macdonalds on the wedding day. The bridal party was starving, so I snapped photos while management watched closely. As they sat in formal attire, we noticed three main reactions from other patrons – some asked questions, some offered congratulations, but most just stared.

Again, let me say it – have fun!! You can’t control everything on the big day and playing it by ear sometimes results in the most enjoyable time.

Not so pure

Published by Kim under Commercial,Modeling

Upon being contacted to shoot another cover for Current, I was delighted to hear it would involve the Purity Girls. I was thinking maybe I’ll get some free goodies – ya know, top up my supply of Peanut Butter Kisses, maybe some Jam Jams.

But then the girls showed up and pulled on fish nets instead of hair nets. As it turns out, they are burlesque dancers.

I had tried to Google the name but a whole slew of interesting things popped up – online virginity pledges and strippers all on the same page. It wasn’t till I later added “newfoundland” to my query did I find a video of their performance on YouTube.

The girls were great fun, each with their own characters or personalities – my favorite was Betty Page.

Oh yea, and don’t forget to have fun

Published by Kim under Weddings

Susanne and Steve were married on Friday two weeks ago.  And I’m not afraid to say that, from their photographer’s perspective, they were the perfect couple and the ideal client.

First of all, they were very nontraditional.  During the service at the Fluvarium, they read poems instead of scriptures.  They did not have a Hummer or a stretch limo – they drove themselves, in a modest, nicely decorated four cylinder car.

Second, they were open to suggestions.  When Jennifer seen the Ice Cream truck on the way up to Cabot Tower, she squealed “Oh, do you think they’ll do it?”  They did, and it was fun.  We bought them ice cream, and got some nice original pictures.

Third, they we not afraid or against having a bit of fun.  They welcomed a more relaxed approach to group shots.  They mingled and talked and relaxed while we shot them.  No stuffy posed pictures.

And finally, they bought in to what we were trying to accomplish on their behalf.  They understood that our function was simply to document the day and help out only when necessary.  As a photographer, I find that there’s a fine balance between general planning and over directing of the wedding day couple.

She’s nuts bye

Published by Kim under Weddings

It has become obvious to me that the best way to get a unique shot at a wedding is for me to do something that no one else seems willing to do.

Here’s another one of those “walk on me” shots.

Walk right over me.

“Look at the photographer! She’s crazy! She’s lying on the ground!?”

There’s now a whole bunch of full weddings from 2007 listed over on the Client page at the Newfoundland Wedding site.
