Trail Mix

Despite the fact that we’re nearing the end of the high season, I’ve been pretty busy lately. While editing the most recent weddings, I’ve not had the time (or organizational skills!) to select shots from each one, so here’s a random assortment – just stuff that I had placed in different directories for various reasons during the editing process.

Modeling shoot with some new friends

Published by Kim under Modeling

Valerie takes a break

I had time this weekend to squat in the first of what I hope will be a few modeling shoots for the fall. We sorta had a change-of-plans due to less than perfect weather, but overall it went well. As usual, Valerie did an excellent job.

It’s always nice to meet other shooters, so I invited a few photographers that I’d never met before along on this one. Amanda had contacted me a little while ago and we got to chatting through email, and Mike is a past co-worker and friend of the minion. Both were looking for some tips and more experience in shooting people, so I asked if they’d like to tag along.

Although they were at different levels of experience, both got up-to-speed very quickly and I think they got some really nice shots.

Way back from the time that I started with photography, I’ve often found that other people in the field seem to naturally horde info – openly sharing seems to be the exception. Even when other photographers have in the past asked if I’d like to get together to do a shoot, it’s often suggested as some sort of competition.

But I prefer a more friendly atmosphere, as we had today. I’m always delighted to meet those that are fairly new to this type of work too – they don’t come with all the “do’s” and “dont’s” baggage that many photographers have, allowing them to freely experiment and get some really interesting, modern stuff.

There’s actually a nice exchange of ideas both ways – I’m glad to help out with any tips and questions, and the unfettered attitude of someone new to the field can help keep a experienced eye fresh.

Whatryat?

So, as I said earlier, I’ve been pretty busy. Although the wedding season has all but clued up, I’ve been doing a good bit of “other stuff”.

One thing was a shoot for enRoute Magazine. They needed a few photos from Home on Water Street for an upcoming story that will be written by Carl Wells.

There was a shoot for The Head Room on LeMarchant Road last week. This was a “last minute” thing, but we took the studio with us on location and got some cool stuff for an upcoming hair competition.

There was also a trade show in town called “Rock Solid Technology” that I shot for the organizers of the event.

I’ve got some time now for a few smaller jobs as well. I shot a grad a few weeks back and I think we’ll be doing a few more modeling shoots before the winter hits.

Moose / bus accident

Published by Kim under Documentary

This is a shot from east bound on the TCH on Sunday morning at 1:00am. We were on our way back from covering a wedding in Port Blandford when we saw this DRL bus half on it’s side in the median, apparently after hitting a moose.

I’ve been more than a little slack on the blog posting lately. I’ll have more free time in the next little while so I’ll remedy that.
