Concepts ain’t easy

Published by Kim under Documentary,Modeling,Newfoundland

When first mentioning this shoot a few months back, I was just coming off the busy season. Still in full-speed-rush-mode, I took a quick pass through the files and banged out a post… then on to The Next Thing.

As I was backing up on Sunday (well, making a backup of the backup for a whole pile of stuff), I saw a few more shots that I really liked.

Eva… sorry, Leila

Published by Kim under Modeling,Newfoundland

Leila Beaudoin As promised, here are a few more shots from Leila’s shoot yesterday.

It was mentioned during the shoot how she resembled the actress Eva Longoria and it sorta became a running joke – I called her Eva through the rest of it. We had a really fun time and ran long into the next session.

Hair and makeup was done in studio by staff of The Head Room, LeMarchant Road.

TFP Yipee

Published by Kim under Modeling

Allison This is from a TFP modeling session that I did on Saturday with Allison. She contacted me a few days ago about setting up a shoot, so I stacked a few on the same day.

I usually do this type of thing as a test for new models – mostly when I have time during the slow season. She did an outstanding job – very comfortable in front of the camera – a natural.

More shots from Allison and Leila later this week.

Just under the wire

I shot Leila Beaudoin today. She’ll be heading to Toronto in a few weeks to represent Newfoundland in the Miss World Canada Pageant.

Honey Cruller Timbits

Published by Kim under Site News

I’ve got a few things coming up later today that I’ll be posting here in the pm – check back.

In the mean time, for those of you who visit in the morning, here’s something to munch on ’till supper time. I stumbled upon this Flickr account a few days ago – it’s not too often that I find much new on Flickr, but Bethan has some really nice travel stuff.

An experiment

Published by Kim under Modeling,Site News

I have an addiction that I have to admit to – I love stats. Web site stats I mean.

Basically this is just a monthly running total of visitors to our various web sites – it tells me the number of daily visits, unique visitors per month, where they’re coming from, what software they’re using and so-on and so-on. I check these stats daily and, if I’m at the computer for any significant amount of time, several times a day.

Something weird happened a few days ago though – when I posted those tattoo pics. The stats went through the roof.

It didn’t even register what could be the cause of this spike until a day or two later when I tracked it back to the post date. It was surprising when I though it could have to do with a few shots of a scantly clad female. How very naive of me, and how very predictable. _sigh_ Perhaps it could be described as implied nudity, but certainly nothing beyond what one would see in a prime time TV ad or in a women’s magazine.

So I actually do work like this fairly regularly, but most often it’s a “boudoir” type shoot (ick – I *hate* that word) for a paying client. Even when it’s not for a paying client, it’s not something that I’d feel comfortable sticking online in the blog – it’s not the type of thing that I’m known for, and I’d prefer not to (for lack of a better term) “scare the bejeezous” out of me poor old mudder.

In thinking about this from the perspective of a social experiment then, I though I’d post a few shots from some past modeling sessions. These are shots of non-paying clients for which each model has signed a release. They also could only be described as implied nudity. There’s literally thousands of places on the ‘net where a visitor could see far more revealing photos, so it’ll be interesting to see what this does to the stats…

Plus, this gets me one day further along in my desperate attempt to keep up this pic-a-day thing.

Radioactive rocks

Published by Kim under Newfoundland,Site News

OK, so I’ve really been milking this last outing for all it’s worth – it’s just so hard
to get out shooting every day, especially when the snow, rain, wind and fog just won’t quit.

I played with a new filter on these and love the burning sensation that quickly follows after looking at that multi-color rock. I only have a few images left from this “series” and even fewer actions in Photoshop with which to manipulate them.

KaPOW! Radioactive rock!

So what have I got besides a few mediocre pictures and Photoshop actions to offer?

Lobster traps

Published by Kim under Newfoundland,Random Thoughts

lobster traps, old barn, sea shell

Here are a few more shots from Sunday’s excursion, not exactly the most original subject matter, but I do like how the mussel shell looks against the grass… could be the “juxtaposition” perhaps. I’d write something clever but I’m just to damn tired.

Someone should have warned me that renovating 3600 square feet of 80 year old house would be such hard work… who knew? I’ve inhaled so much MDF dust today that I can’t swallow. Is it normal to spontaneously stop producing saliva?

Anyway, when it’s all done I’ll be sure to post pictures of the “project” that has taken a meager 5 years to complete. Well, almost complete.

Early mornings

Published by Kim under Newfoundland

Most people wouldn’t get up at 5:30am willingly, but since I’ve been hauling my ass to the gym at the crack of dawn these past few weeks, I found it pretty easy on Sunday to hit the road by 6:30am.

I’m geting use to the once unnatural feeling of leaving the house while it’s still dark. I was hoping for a great sunrise but, as I said before, was sadly disappointed. I sat in the car ’till there was enough light to begin shooting, and that brought me all the way to 8:30am. Just to give you an idea… I was on 800 ISO and fully exposed to all available light.

I kinda like the damp, dreary look of the pictures and, despite the weather, we all got some nice photos I believe.

Hibb’s Cove

Now there has been some reference to what we had to go through to get the seal picture – and this is where all my arse hauling came in handy. We had to jump aboard a boat that was tied to the dock in Port de Grave – not a big deal, right? Well, this thing was about 65 feet long, with a gap between it and the warf at about four feet. Being a scardy cat, I had a hard time getting across. All surfaces were wet and clumsy, but us gals managed. My boot did slip on the dismount, but there were so many people holding on to me that I could have been drunk off my ass and still made it across.

Anyway, I’m guessing that what we did was illegal thinking back on it… trespassing perhaps? Neighborhood watch was on our heals I’m sure. I knew all that arse hauling would pay off – I could flee the scene fairy easily and vanish… into the darkness of the afternoon.

Road Trip

Published by Kim under Newfoundland

We had quite a crew on this one. Despite the forecast, the sky never did clear but we trudged on anyway and got a few shots.

sea life, seal, old boat, trailer

As you can imagine, the highlight was that seal.
