Belly Dancing

Published by Kim at 12:25 am under Random Thoughts

I got a call the other day from Bev, one of the Fotogeeks. She also happens to be a Girl Guide Leader, and asked if I wanted to come by and shoot a meeting which was being visited by a local belly dancing group.

Belly Dancers
The Neighbourhood Strays, as the group is known, showed the girls how it’s done and, as can be seen from the photos, everyone really got into it. It was great fun to photograph and it managed to strengthened this burning desire I have to visit India.

These photographs are stunning, and really show the enjoyment that the Guides got from the workshop, and how much fun the instructors had. As a member of this dance company, I know firsthand that volunteering in the community in this way is something we embrace, because it is so rewarding, and it benefits the dance community and the community at large. Bellydance is so much about self-esteem and body-acceptance, and at the age that these girls are. these things are critical. Thank you for highlighting this event so beautifully.
