Creepy Dolls

Published by Kim under Family, Random Thoughts

It was about this time last year that my parents decided they had enough with work.

Now… when most people retire, they downsize. Not these guys. They upsized to what can be best described as a ski lodge. So why a bigger place? Trust me, there are certainly no grandkids on the way.

Anyway, me mudder decorated the ski lodge herself, and even this harsh critic has to admit - she did an outstanding job. Creepy Dolls The new place is not yet complete… they’re still doing work. This particular fact was not entirely known by my significant other while we planned the visit, but was abundantly clear immediately upon arrival. Randy spent the weekend “on loan” to my father - toiling on some household electrical and equipment hookups… good minion that he is.

But any praise of mom’s decorating has to be considered alongside the disclosure that there are creepy elements within the house. I don’t know how else to say this - there are little dolls around every corner - carefully selected to fit the mood. My first exposure to them was upon laying down my suitcase. There, meeting my gaze were those two… sitting back… plotting… Waiting For Me.

Oh God, I pray to thee this not be the start of a large collection.

Happy Birthday to me

Published by Kim under Family

I usually go through a small mental breakdown on my birthday.

I’ve already done the quarter life crisis freak out thing two years ago. I took a pair of scissors from the kitchen drawer and chopped six inches off my hair - I thought it would make me look a little edgier. It turns out that it sort-of works if you use a blunt pair of scissors. Is edgy the same as chunky?

This year is different though - I’m feeling optimistic. I attribute this mostly to the things that have been keeping me busy. So instead of indulging in five pounds of cake while pondering over what I haven’t accomplished, I’m going to celebrate. Here’s to all the people who have entered my life this past year and have brought a smile and sense of inquisitiveness. And let’s not forget those that are already here, who continue to keep me focused, grounded and sane as they themselves endure the wrath that is Kim.

Many people ask: “where is your picture?” I guess that, after reading the blog and looking at photos for awhile, they expect to see a shot of me. But it’s a bit of a silly question to ask a photographer isn’t it? By it’s very definition, I _can’t_ be in any of the shots in this blog. So, after shooting a friend of a friend in the studio today, I had a fotogeek help me out…

At this point I would normally just say something like.. I dunno “One year closer to death”. But I’ll adjust that this year to “one year wiser.”

Quintuplets

Published by Kim under Family

I haven’t done a maternity shoot in ages and was excited when Aldena mentioned the possibility - I jumped at the chance. I’d done a modeling shoot with her before, and knew she was exceptionally comfortable in front of the camera.

Pregnancy shoot

Now I’d literally done about a hundred of these in the past, but that was at the “old place”, so they hold copyright on the lot. My portfolio in that area would be mind blowing if only I could get permission to use those files - not likely to happen.

It’s sorta like the kid stuff too. Back there, I had done a group shot of two year old quintuplets - not only were they all looking at the camera, they were all smiling! Whew!

How do you achieve something like this you may ask? Simply by being a fool. You just hold that camera thingy at the ready while also swooping a giant stuffed frog in on one of the children and screaming… “I’m gonna get ya! Who’s next?!”
