These are the last few shots from our Bell Island road trip.
I popped out around getting some pictures while the rest of the crew stayed in the car to contemplate lunch and wait for the return ferry crossing.
The Fotogeeks btw have a few good shots from that trip as well. Those guys tend to shoot more scenic stuff and jump out of the car to go running in that direction, while I often head toward any people that I see in the same area, so that site can give an interesting alternate perspective on the same trip.

I shot these down near Portugal Cove / St. Phillips on Wednesday.

Later that day, while doing my regular blog rounds, I seen that Karen had paid a visit to the same area. We have in the past been to the same spot within a few days of each other, but I think this is the first time it’s happened within a few hours.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Karen has been doing a photo-a-day at Bitstop (bitstop-nfld.blogspot.com) for a few years now. If you stop by here regularly to check out the Newfoundland shots, add her to your daily routine too.
I’m sure that we’ll run into each other sooner or later.

When an unfamiliar person shows up in a small community, especially an unfamiliar person with a camera, people notice.
While climbing a small snow bank to take a shot of that weathered green ladder (below) in Burin a few weeks ago, I didn’t notice that I was under surveillance.
About a half hour later, a man pulled up along side our car – he kindly asked who we were and what were the pictures for – and why pictures of the ladder?
Apparently, he had been following us all that time – scoping us out. I told him they were just for fun – I’d use them in my blog. He went happily on his way.

Some shots from early yesterday morning. As we drove out the Bay de Verde Peninsula we were treated to an extended golden sunrise courtesy of a freaky combination fog,
low lying clouds and surface water vapour.
There was a much smaller group on this excursion, and perhaps that was a good thing. I’m not sure how many people would have stuck with it when the temperature dipped down to -24C (as per the car’s in-dashboard thermometer). We had a well-bundled-up group, each with a good appreciation for the fact that the extreme cold presented us with the surface steam that “made” many of our shots.
Thankfully, the wind was light so, even right on the water, I’d estimate the wind chill didn’t get much below -30C. When there’s very little wind like this, direct sunlight can also make the air seem warmer than the actual temperature.

We’ve made a conscious decision now to start documenting parts of eastern Newfoundland other than the run south from St. John’s to Cape Race.

This time we ended up as far as Harbour Main. With the weather being just a bit “less-than-perfect” (or “nothing special”, if you’re a glass half empty type of person), we decided to “save” some areas for later trips. We’ve been to Harbour Main before, and I can confirm that it is indeed that area that we shot in Winter Road Trip Two with that very-old-falling-down-shed.
We’re thinking about another one next weekend – hopefully we’ll get a sunny day, or at least some interesting weather.
That’s Queenie from Cupids again in the lower left BTW. What a sweet horse with a beautiful temperament. The ones from a few days back were rambunctious and spirited – Queenie was almost posing for the camera.

I got this shot down to Quidi Vidi a few nights back.
As can be seen, there was freezing rain / snow at the time – I used an old umbrella to cover the camera and tripod – I think the snow really adds to the shot tho.
