Since the weather seemed iffy, we took a run up just as far as Pouch Cove over the weekend. By the time we got there, the sky had opened up and everything was beautifully lit. After weighing our options based on the good weather before us, we decided to get back to our map and headed to the opposite corner of the Avalon Peninsula.
After visiting an eerily vacant Argentia, we found this great farm around Gooseberry Cove.

The owner told us that the road to Cape St. Mary’s would be impassable with our car, but we had several stories on the state of affairs on that particular stretch of highway, so we continued on toward our goal. He was right – the road was somewhat snow covered as well as somewhat hidden. Our driver wanted to break out the shovel and make a go of it, but he was overruled by the group.
That brings us to 0 for 2 for capes so far this winter. Cape Race = failure. Cape St. Mary’s = failure.
